About the Series
The West Virginia Women’s Alliance is proud to announce the launch of our signature civic dialogue program, The Folding Chair Series, inspired by the trailblazing spirit of Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm, who once said: “If they don’t give you a seat at the table, bring a folding chair.”
This first-of-its-kind statewide initiative creates intentional space for diverse voices across the political spectrum so attendees can learn about the political process, civic engagement, and hear ideas on bipartisan solutions to high priority issues facing West Virginians.
Inspired by Chisholm’s call to action, the Folding Chair Series is rooted in the belief that democracy thrives when everyone is invited to the table—or empowered to bring their own seat. Each event invites West Virginians into open, solution-focused dialogue with public figures, thought leaders, and changemakers. The aim: to restore trust in the power of conversation, accountability, and grassroots leadership to build bridges and find foundational solutions so that our most vulnerable populations, especially West Virginia women and children, can thrive.
Inaugural Guest: Senator Joe Manchin
